Forest Stewardship: Acorn Collecting Workshop with Wisconsin DNR
We’re collecting acorns to help future forests grow! This special stewardship activity will teach you how to identify red and white oaks and their acorns, provide a guided off-trail experience in the Forest, and contribute to Wisconsin’s Trillion Trees Pledge and statewide reforestation efforts.
Led by a Wisconsin DNR forester, stewards will walk the forest trails and designated off-trail areas to hand-collect acorns that have fallen to the forest floor. Along the way we’ll discuss dedicated oak regeneration efforts at the FEC and other climate-smart adaptive strategies.
This event will include walking on trails and uneven terrain, bending over, raking, and carrying small bags of acorns. If you have questions about accessibility or mobility, please contact us.
The Department of Natural Resources reforestation program grows high-quality native tree seedlings and shrubs to plant on private and public lands for conservation and to contribute to the forest products industry.
Children aged 8 and up are welcome if accompanying an adult. Please leave dogs at home for this event.
